I can’t explain why I like this poem so much. It’s whimsical and intimate and it makes me happy. Enjoy!
This Is Just To Say

-William Carlos Williams
Haha.. I love whimsical poems like this.. just wish it had rhymed though..
I do generally prefer rhyming poems, but I don’t mind too much with this one because the lack of rhyming makes it seems more like a regular note someone might leave out. If you love whimsical poems, I recommend Ogden Nash!
Oooh I like Ogden Nash.. I was taught his ‘nonsense verses ‘ by my dad, when u was just a kid.. I loved this one called ‘maneating gru’ and used to recite it with gusto.. 🐱
I’ll have to look that one up! My favorite was “The leopard.” I absolutely love the way Nash plays with language and makes it so malleable. 🙂
I have read
the poem
that was in
your post,
and which
you were probably
saving
just for us.
No forgiveness
is necessary.
It is so bright
and so bold.
That is a fun one. The question is, if the poet was inspired by a real life event, was the poem enough to save him from the wrath of the person looking forward to those plums!?!?
I’ve wondered that myself! Recently, I did a fun spoof for a class, imagining that a burglar left the note after trashing the house. The possibilities are really endless.
